I'd like to wish them well in their endeavors toward fertility, but I hate to encourage others whose selfishness so dramatically effects the well-being of a child.

Comment on Online Book Club: Submit Your Questions For Carrie Lukas

Thanks! It's something a lot of us are aspiring to do in the future, and it's nice to have role models like her who have been so successful and have gone through so many hardships.

Comment on Salt: The New Foe?

This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. What's next on the menu for them to restrict? If we let the government into these small sectors like salt in the food industry we are letting them into a part of our lives the government was never supposed to be in. And if we let them in, it's going to be hard to get them out.

Comment on NeW Highlights Emerging Leader: Anna Beavon Gravely

NeW has been a perfect fit for Anna Beavon. She has grown into such a lovely young woman--I wish I could take some of the credit. She has been focused as she said, since birth.
I am so proud of her and all I really want is to be like her when I grow up!

Comment on NeW Highlights Emerging Leader: Anna Beavon Gravely

I'm so happy Anna Beavon joined NeW! You state that "There are some professions and tasks that men tend to perform better at, and the same is true for women in different fields. And there are a growing number of fields where men and women perform similarly and even compete", implying in the context of this article that directing film is in the latter category. However, your statements prove what feminists have been saying all along: our assumptions about what sorts of tasks fall into either category can (and DO) change over time. Meaning, whereas some Americans may have believed that men were more well-suited for the political/voting arena than women prior to the passage of the 19th Amendment, time (and a hard-won fight by feminist activists) has proved that in actuality, men and women can participate in a more and more equal way in that realm. Your assumption that most things should be split along gender lines based on "innate" characteristics is outdated and, following the premise of this very article, will slowly be disproved.

2. You state " A pause to recognize that in an achievement like this, where men and women were judged on merit, and NOT on the basis of their sex, anything can happen." That is exactly what feminists (who you pejoratively deem "radical" in a serious stroke of ignorance about the nuance of the feminist movement) have been saying! Actors and Actresses should be in a single category, so that they are based solely on their skills and not their gender. Which is what you are saying also, except for two lines later when you contradict yourself.

Just something to think about,
A

Comment on Hooking Up: Empowering or Not?

Great post! I think modern feminists are a long way from acknowledging the reality that hookup culture is a direct, though perhaps unintended, consequence of the Sexual Revolution. Still, there's a crack in the wall of the fortress, which is encouraging. You might enjoy a post I wrote about this topic today:

A Flurry of Flustered Feminists, Finally

http://www.hookingupsmart.com/2010/03/05/hookinguprealities/a-flurry-of-flustered-feminists-finally/
